How to use Gexpro.com?

General Site Questions
How do I know if Gexpro.com is in secure mode?

Depending on your browser type and settings, you will be alerted that you are switching to a secure server: "You are about to view pages over a secure connection." or "You have requested a secure document." if your browser settings require this. Otherwise you will see a padlock in the status bar of your browser that is locked, indicating that you are requesting a secure page.
Why can't I bookmark a page in your site?

With the exception of the home page before login, the content delivered is dynamic, contingent on click-through scenarios and controlled by a session ID. Once you leave this session, (close your browser) the information is not persistent, therefore the content cannot be bookmarked. You can, however, bookmark the initial URL.
Products, Manufacturer, and Catalog

How do I find out if you carry products from a specific manufacturer?

A list of manufacturers by product category can be found on our Manufacturers Line Card when you click on Literature on the top toolbar. You can also enter a manufacturer's name in the search field in our catalog to view all entries for that manufacturer.

How can I find technical information for a product?

In the Catalog and Shopping Cart, click Details to see basic information about the product. We are currently working to establish links to more detailed product information. If you can't find what you need online, contact your local branch or send us an e-mail message through Ask the Expert.

How is My Catalog different than the standard catalog?

My Catalog is a subset of the Gexpro.com catalog that only contains items you select to put into it, making it easier for you to find the items you need. Once in My Catalog, you can sort by different fields, view certain categories and conduct searches. You can also add notes to any item in My Catalog.

Catalog Search Tips


Aliases
We have loaded many common slang terms for product to speed your search. Type "pancake box" , "battleship" or any other nickname for a quick search.

Category Search
After you click Search a list of products display, one or more categories in which the keywords were found will be shown at the top of the table. If you cannot find your item in the table, click on the appropriate category to display data unique to that group. You may then filter and sort based on your needs to narrow the search.

Filter
Click any of the titles with up/down indicators in the search results table to display a list of all values in that column. Select one to filter the list to display items with that attribute only. Multiple filters may be applied to a list. The column heading will change color to indicate it has been filtered.

Sort
Ascending and descending sorts of the table are useful and fast. One sort may be all you need to find your item. The sort symbol (triangle) will change color when activated. Selecting one sort will override any previous sorts.

Item Product Details
Click the item Details icon to display all item information along with a graphical representation of the item and your price. From this page you can add the item to the Shopping Cart or My Catalog, or return to the previous search results.

Keyword
By entering keywords, your item may be just one click away. Include any ratings, specs, slang (see Aliases), part numbers, manufacturer names, enclosure types, Gexpro part number or UPC number. Please do not use special characters (such as a slash or dash, an asterisk or punctuation).

Table of Contents
The Table of Contents displays an expandable, alphabetical listing of categories. Click a category to display its sub-categories. Click on the sub-category to view all items in that group. Filter or sort the list to locate your item.

Events
Can I find out more about an event?

Click an event from the home page or events listing to see details on location, dates, contact names, etc.
Gexpro Locations
How do I find a Gexpro location close to me?

Click on Locations on the top toolbar and select your state. A list of branches in the selected state will display. Click a specific branch for details.
Shopping Cart, Orders, Quotes

Can I purchase with my credit card?

Yes. We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

What is a QuickBuy?
Quick Buy lets you order items by UPC, NAED, Manufacturer or Customer Part Number (must have previously worked with Gexpro to create your catalog of customer-specific item numbers) without the need to search the catalog. Type the part number in the QuickBuy field to add the item to your Shopping Cart with one simple click. The quantity ordered automatically defaults to 1 and a Customer Requested Date for the item is 2 business days from the date of order. The quantity and date can be changed in the Shopping Cart.
What if I want to price a bill of material, but I'm not quite ready to buy?
You can create your bill of material in the Shopping Cart to view your price for each item. You can then save the complete bill of material as a quote that will remain valid for 30 days. When you are ready to buy, your quote can be converted to an order in one click.
How long is the pricing in my quote valid?
Quote prices are valid for 30 days. The expiration date displays in the quotes detail view for your convenience.
Can I submit a request for pricing on-line?
The Quotes feature allows you to submit a quote for review. Add the items to your shopping cart. Save the shopping cart as a quote, and select the submit for review button. A sales representative will review the quote and respond to you shortly.
How do I place an order?
Click the checkbox in the Select column for each item you want to purchase in the catalog and click Add to Cart. This places the selected items in the Shopping Cart and displays your price for each item. Enter the appropriate quantity and requested delivery date for each item in the Shopping Cart. When you are satisfied with the cart contents, click Checkout and follow the directions to complete your order.
Can I order something that is not in the Gexpro.com catalog?
Any item that is not in the Gexpro.com catalog is considered a special order item. To order, enter the item part number, quantity and requested date in the QuickBuy section of the Shopping Cart. A window will appear prompting for the item description. Enter the description and click Add to Cart to return to the Shopping Cart and continue ordering. A price of TBD (To Be Determined) displays. Your Gexpro sales representative will contact you with price and availability information on the special order item.

Are Purchase Order Numbers required?
Non-account customers will have the option of entering a Purchase Order Number in Checkout. This is 24 character, non-required field.

Gexpro account customers will be required to enter a PO or Reference field based on the information in their customer profile in our Order-Ship-Bill system. The customer PO is an 8 character field; customer Reference# is a 16 character field.

Can I get same day delivery of an order?
Yes. When you place your order make sure the requested date in the Shopping Cart is today's date.
Can I pick up my order at a local branch?
Yes. During order checkout you have the option to check Branch Pick-up (Will Call) if you prefer to pick up your order at a local branch.
Will I see my pricing on Gexpro.com or just a list price?
When you are logged in as a registered customer, your specific prices display in the Shopping Cart for each item.
What does the "Allow Substitutes?" button mean?
Choosing to allow substitutes gives us the flexibility to provide you with an item that provides the same form, fit and function as the item ordered if that item is not available for your requested delivery date. Should the item we provide be of greater monetary value, you will be invoiced your lower specific price for the originally ordered item.
How soon will I receive my order?
You can specify the delivery date for your order during checkout. The default delivery is two business days after order entry.
How do I add or edit my shipping and billing addresses?
Click My Account in the top navigation bar. Then click My Profile in the left navigation bar. At the bottom of the My Profile page, you have the option to add/edit your shipping and billing addresses.
What is a Purchasing List?
A Purchasing List is like an order template. If you think you will buy the same bill of material more than once, you can save it as a Purchasing List. The next time you need to purchase those items, you open the Purchasing List and add the items to your Shopping Cart in one click. You can have an unlimited number of Purchasing Lists. They are saved indefinitely until you delete them.
How do I add an item to a Purchasing List that has already been saved?
Once an item is in the Shopping Cart, click Save as Purchasing List. Then use Edit List to select the list to add the item. Click Save.
How does Gexpro.com handle sales tax?
If you are a current tax exempt customer, your orders default to a tax exempt status. You can, however, disable the tax exemption for a specific order. Sales tax will be estimated at time of order entry for all customers that do not have tax exemption certificates on file with Gexpro.
How can I see if you have a product in stock?
Add the items to the Shopping Cart with the required quantity and delivery date and click Check Availability for All Items. You must be logged on to do this.
How do I return something?
From your home page, you can access a Return Request Form in the Customer Care menu in the left navigation bar.
Can I check the status of my order on line?
Yes. First, you must log in. Then click My Account in the top navigation bar. Click Order Status in the left navigation bar to search for an order.
Account Information

How do I set up an account?
After you complete the on line registration, click Apply For Credit at the bottom of the registration page. Click the link to print a copy of the Credit Application. Complete the form and fax to Gexpro's Customer Financial Services. Allow one full day after faxing the application for your account to be established.

How do I gain access to my Company's Accounts Payable information?
First-time users to the site (with Gexpro accounts only): Click Log On in the upper left corner of the home page and click Register. Click Yes to Existing Customer? in the Login Information section of Registration. Complete the page and click Yes to Request Access and type your Accounts Receivable number. Complete registration and click Finish to proceed.


Registered Users: Log On to Gexpro.com. Click My Account at the top of the home page. Click AP Registration in the left navigation bar. Type your Accounts Receivable number and click Submit. Once submitted, you will receive an e-mail message confirmation when your profile is updated and you can access your Accounts Payable information.

Who can I contact about my account?
Click Contact Us in the left navigation bar. You can send an e-mail message to the Customer Care Center using the form provided or call the toll-free number for immediate assistance.

Can I find invoice information on Gexpro.com?
Yes. If you log on and have accounts payable access, click My Account in the top navigation bar. You can view and sort a current statement of your account in Open Items, view and sort the details of your most recent monthly statements in Statements, view and sort items that have recently been cleared from your account in Account History or search for specific invoices using Invoice Lookup.

How do I get a copy of my statement?
If you log on and have accounts payable access, click My Account in the top navigation bar. Click Statements in the left navigation bar and a summary list of your most recent statements displays. Click the desired statement to view, sort the details and print a copy for your records. If your statement is not available, call the Internet Customer Care Center at 1-888-964-7585.
Can I pay invoices on Gexpro.com?
We are currently designing a system to allow you to select invoices for payment, schedule payments and create paper remittances. This functionality will be available in the near future.
How do I get answers to questions relating specifically to my invoices/statements?
Your Customer Financial Services Account Manager is the best resource for these types of questions. If you log on and have Accounts Payable access, go to My Account to send an e-mail message or find your Account Manager's phone number. Links to your Account Manager are also available at the top and bottom of the pages within My Account: Open Items, Statements, Statement Detail, Invoice Detail, & Account History.
Order Status
Why can't I find an order in Order Status when I know it was placed with Gexpro?

Order Status only displays open orders. If the order has shipped it is no longer viewed in Order Status. It is converted to an invoice and can be viewed in Invoice Lookup.
Are all the orders I place online found in Order Status (regardless of how I placed the order)?
Yes. All open stock orders are found in Order Status regardless of how the order is placed. (Once an order ships it no longer displays in Order Status.) Currently, status of direct orders cannot be viewed today.
Purchasing Lists
How many Purchasing Lists can I have?

You can have an unlimited number of purchasing lists (with a maximum of 99 items in each).
How long are Purchasing Lists saved?
Purchasing Lists are saved indefinitely or until deleted by you.
Registration & Profile Information

How do I register?
Click Log On in the upper left corner of the home page to go to the customer Login page. Click Register to access the Registration page. You can also click any Registration banner throughout the site to access the Registration page. After completing the information on Page 1 of Registration, you can click Finish to complete the registration or Continue Registration if you would like to add your Shipping and Billing information for future visits. If you want to open an account with Gexpro, you can click Apply for Credit after completing Page 2 of Registration.

What are the benefits of registration?
As a registered customer, you can take advantage of all Gexpro.com has to offer. You can create your own catalog, purchasing lists and quotes. You can check to see if items are in stock. You can also save shipping and billing addresses in your profile to make order checkout easier. By providing more information about you and your business, you allow us to tailor the information on the site to your specific interests.
I forgot my username and/or password. What should I do?
If you forget your username, you can call our Customer Care Center at 1-888-964-7585 and they will send an e-mail message with your username and password. They will not provide this information over the phone. If you forget your password only, you can enter your username and Click "forgot your password?" to view your password hint.
How do I view and/or update my profile?
Click My Account in the top navigation bar. Then click My Profile in the left navigation bar. You can make and save any changes to your profile.

How can I contact someone with a question?
You can click Customer Care at the top of any page to get telephone and fax numbers for our Customer Care Center. Click Contact Us to send an e-mail to a Customer Care Representative. You can also click Contact Us in the left navigation bar. To contact someone at your local branch, click on Locations on the top toolbar for names and telephone numbers.

Where can I get application assistance?
Click Ask The Expert in the left navigation bar to access the Ask The Expert page. Click Contact Our Experts in the left navigation bar to send your question via e-mail to one of our application specialists or call the toll-free number listed if your request is urgent and requires immediate assistance.
I have an emergency situation. How can I get the products and help I need immediately?
Click Emergency Service in the left navigation bar. Call the toll-free number for immediate assistance.
Who can I contact about my account?
Click Contact Us in the left navigation bar for the toll-free number to speak to a Customer Care Representative.
